Strengthened by Faith

The Renegades co-hosted the Strengthened by Faith Tournament, June 30 and July 1st in Vallejo, along with the Kyle Choi Leukemia Foundation.

Kyle Choi is a 15-year old avid basketball player out of Vallejo and was recently diagnosed with Leukemia. He was fortunate enough to find a special little angel in his 9-year old little sister who provided him with a bone marrow transplant. Erica YOU ARE AWESOME!

The Renegade family bounded together in true Renegade family fashion to help out the Choi family and the foundation in a true show of support. The green (and gold) wave handled all that needed to be handled at the 3 court Mare Island Gym with donations of time, food and drink, and $$.

At the end of the day, our 12 girls, 11 boys, and 12/13 boys took home championship wins but even more, we went home with a great feeling knowing that we helped out. Shouts out to those that pitched in:
  • Pat Johnson and d'Palacios Fam for making sure players and parents could get hydrated with Gatorade!
  • Robert Trujillo, Micki Davis,Kay Rosales, and Lee Ann Roper for drowning us with water bottles!
  • Kay Rosales & Ting Ponce for the 'ice-ice baby' for the shaved ice!
  • Lyn & Jess Medalle, Joy & Jess Lopez for donating candies for the snack bar so kids can get hyper and thirsty so they can buy more drinks from us!
  • Diane Wilson for making sure customers had chips and drinks to buy!
  • Melissa & Marv for bringing even more chips!
  • Kay Rosales and Lee Ann Roper for some carbonated fizzy drinks..(but where's the diet?)
  • George Maguire for baking the fabulous cupcakes with the rainbow sprinkles (we know it wasn't u)!
  • Tomika Taylor, Yvonne Henderson, Bertha Moreno, Rich Peralta, Chris Lastrella, Gabe Shippe, Erik Onciano, Bruce Crowder, Mike Ponce and.... who took on the challenge of the scoreboard (and the screams of the spectators!)
  • Jaimee and Kelsey Yaudes, Stefanie Lewis, d'Ching fam - Annabelle, Matt, Samantha and Sidney, Joni & Clay Palacio, Janeen Lim, Renee Cruz, Bertha Moreno for regulating at the front door!
  • Carlos Cruz, Rene Fernandez, Marvin Jones for decorating the gym..haha (oops, we meant setting up the chairs!), clean-up at mare island, and for helping with bringing items to and from our cars.
  • Judi Velasco for getting Safeway to donate all those tasty pastries and for asking Andrea's Foods to donate the large tray of pancit and Turon (fried plantains).
  • Ro Chesney for all the kitchen gadets like the microwave, toaster, shave ice machine and fryer.
  • Ro Chesney paper towels/toilet paper to wipe your "YOU KNOW WHAT!"....lol
  • Stacey Owens and Sis- BIG BIG thank you for bringing in your fryer (and manning the bad boy!) which enabled us to continue on selling lumpias and fries to hungry spectators.
  • Rae Peralta for helping us in the snack area. Hope your fingers are still blue and red from the shaved ice!
  • And big 'ole props to the big 'ole guy, Marvin Jones.. who tackled the 10 games of some hard core ref-ing.. back to back even... do we need to buy a few bags of epson salts for the guy?

  • Marianne Chesney for manning the front door and doing our food errands.
  • Ryan Ramirez for spending most of your weekend with us running the time clock and helping at the front door - whereas you could of been hanging out with your teenager friends and girlfriend.
  • John Laxa, Carl Lastrella, Frank Dye, and Lydia Kennedy for working the time clocks when most of the weekend.
  • Butch Zaragoza for stepping up as "gym manager" for Sunday morning so Mario can coach his 10u boys team.
